During 1985 a man called David Cook realised the potential in video rentals. Within his company he had over 5000 VHS tapes, 3000 Betamax tapes. Over 400 stores were built by 1988 and by the 1990's there were over 1000 stores. This was a very significant discovery because it meant that more people could view films for cheaper prices. It also meant that the company would gain profit because the videos would have to be returned by a certain date. Blockbuster video unfortunately closed down in 2014, due to becoming overstocked, the creation of Netflix, Blu-ray, DVD's, Amazon and streaming. Due to these creations renting videos became much less popular and unnecessary, as few people still owned video players.
