The Declaration of Independence, written to the thirteen states of America, was written on July 4, 1776. Written by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration has five parts. The Preamble, the Statement of Human Rights, Charges Against Human Rights, and the Statement of Separation and Signatures. This document was the official separation of the States from England. All men were now considered equal, and as a nation America was free to create our own government, separate from Great Britain.

The rights stated in the Declaration include the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which is what America lives by today. By the end it was clearly stated that the United States of America would have no more connections with Great Britain.This Declaration signifies the birth of our nation and our freedom. It not only gave hope to people who dreamed of freedom, but it in a sense served as an outline of how we should love as citizens.
