The VHS and Betamax players were both made by Sony but had different compatibilities. The VHS player was affordable, small, light, easy to operate, hold more content and last longer tha a betamax. However the Betamax was much less successful as it was not affordable, not user friendly to home videos, couldn't run for longer than an hour and although it was better quality this was not visibly clear. Therefore VHS was much more popular and successful than the betamax, therefore more people bought it. This was an important event because it set the groundings for further improvements to the invention in the future.
