Nickelodeons (cinemas) were called this because admission was only a nickel. This was because film was entertainment for the lower classes who couldn't afford the theatre. This meant that the Nickelodeons didn't have to worry about finding new audiences because the same audience would return again every time. This is important because it enhances the popularity of cinemas today and how they have massively evolved to attract people from all aspects of life. These early establishments were very significant because without them we may not have had cinemas today and films may not have gained as much profit.
