27 Aug 1917 Jahr - Kornilov Affair

Beschreibung:

- Kornilov, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, thought radicals had taken Petrograd, and marched on the city
- Kerensky panicked, and armed the Red Guard to protect the city
- this meant freeing many of the Bolsheviks imprisoned during the July Days
- Bolshevik agents and railway workers convinced Kornilov's forces to stand down - no bloodshed
- Bolsheviks praised as heroes
Impact:
- Bolsheviks were now popular again
- the Red Army was armed
- Bolshevik leaders had been freed from jail and returned to the streets
