27 Jan 1869 Jahr - Ezo Protectorate

Beschreibung:

After the defeat of the forces of the Tokugawa shogunate in the Boshin War, a part of the former shogun's navy fled to the northern
island of Ezo, with several thousand soldiers and a handful of French military advisers.

The Leader of this faction was able to garner French support, which held heavy weight in negotiations with Japan. Ezo requested permission from Japan to develop Hokkaido and maintain the traditions of the samurai.

Japan accepted and the Treaty of Sapporo was signed, granting Ezo independence, however continued Japanese aggression would lead to its establishment as a French Protectorate in 1873.
