Thomson discovered that atoms are made of even smaller particles with positive and negative charges, and that the negatively charged electrons within the atom were very small compared to the rest of the atom. One thing he didn't discover though, is that there are also neutral particle (neutrons). His model displayed a large positively charged particle with lots of smaller, negatively charged particles
