Toven Valcor invited Rikjoert Karmæn to Kueplios to lessen the rivalry and soften the tensions between the two houses. However, during Rikjoert's visit, he assassinated Toven during the dinner of the second night. Rikjoert told Toven right before killing him, "My friend, tonight was great but for you it will be your last. Your family took the power of my family and banished us to a foreign land and then you destroy everything we had created, all that we built. Revolution after revolution, treaty after treaty and you continue to rule. I am not sorry for this act, my friend, for your time has come and when I kill you, no one will hear your cries, no one will come to save you but I am sorry to know you will never hold your child in your arms. Your reign has ended and now let Malhena guide your soul to ascension as the Serpent devours the goat for all to be good." Once Rikjoert finished with his speech to Toven, Rikjoert lurched towards him, attempting to grab him. Toven dodged him and tried to run for the door but Rikjoert grabbed his shoulders and tossed him to the floor. He began to punch him in the face over a dozen times but was kicked off by Toven who then got ontop of him and tried to strangle Rikjoert. Rikjoert threw him off and the two began to brawl. Rikjoert grabbed Toven's head and started to bash it into the side of a table, leading to his gory death.

Once Toven was killed, Rikjoert cleaned himself up, redressed in finer clothes, and called an emergency meeting of Toven's Council an hour later. There around 8:30PM, he proclaimed himself as king as Toven's lifeless body lay across the ground in the throne room of Karmen Castle. The council agreed to his proclamation and immediately, Rikjoert had all the members arrested for treason. The next morning, he sent out letters to those he wanted for his council.
