A coordinated uprising took place all over the Spanish island of Cuba in the Caribbean on this date. Santiago was captured, the Havana plot was foiled, and uprisings in the central part of Cuba were ill coordinated and thus failed. This event began the chain of events that caused the Spanish American war 3 years later.
