Tet is the Vietnamese new year festival. Vietcong were hidden in Saigon and assaulted the Americans heavily by surprise. The American Embassy was taken over by the Vietcong. Leading US politicians turned against the Vietnam war. Johnson was stunned by the Tet Offensive.
