On December 13, 1466, Donatello dies of unknown causes in Florence, Italy. He is then buried next to Cosimo de' Medici. His final resting place is at the Basilica of San Lorenzo. When he died, Donatello had unfinished pieces that his student, Bertoldo Di Giovonni completed for him.
