The team's discoveries helped trace the source of the poisoning, leading to a public inquiry that pointed specifically to Russia for having ordered the hit. He was found with numerous stab and slash wounds from two different knives. He had in the months prior been traveling to Russia for further research. His family insists that his death was suicide.
