Beschreibung:

In June 1948, Stalin severed all road, rail and canal links with
West Berlin in an attempt to stop the increasing revival of
Germany under the leadership of the USA in particular. The
USA saw this as the first stage of an attack on West
Germany. The Allies responded with constant airlifts of
supplies into West Berlin for over 11 months. Despite
constant shortages, the city was able to survive due to the 2
million tons of supplies dropped (at great cost to the USA).
By May 1949 Stalin was forced to concede defeat and he
lifted the blockade. The West had clearly shown that they will
not be intimidated by Stalin and that they were prepared to
keep West Berlin at all costs.
