30 März 1865 Jahr - Costa Rican
Protectorate
Beschreibung:
Following the establishment of the Greater Republic of Central America, Colombian fears over their influence grew with them now fearing both British and American encroachments into their neighbors. As a result, Colombia declared a guarantee of independence over Costa Rica in 1860.
Over the next decade following the formation of the GRCA, Colombia began to expand its influence in Costa Rica more and more until they signed the treaty of Castro-Valenzuela with Costa Rica. This treaty finally put an end to the border dispute between Colombia and Costa Rica, granting Costa Rica the long disputed archipelago of Bocas del Toro; in exchange, Costa Rica was established as a Colombian protectorate.
