Katsuhiro was born to Hana Matsuoka and Haruto Matsuoka. He was born in Tokyo, Japan along with his older brother Kaito and younger sister Sara. The family immigrated to the US when Hiro was 13 years old because his father was offered a job at NYU. There Hiro found trouble fitting in with the other kids. He found school harder due to his hearing loss as a child. Later he went to Gallaudet, but returned to New York for work.
