Iowan Carl H. Duede flew copies of the Des Moines Capital newspaper from Des Moines, Iowa to Guthrie Center, Iowa. This was one of the earliest practical everyday uses of airplanes, as they had previously been used mostly for military action or for entertainment and personal fun. Duede predicted that airplanes would one day be a common sight and would be used for practical cross-country transportation of both goods and passengers.
