The Battle of Vimy Ridge was fought between the allies and the Germans. The allies were trying to take the ridge that the Germans had occupied it was difficult because the Germans could shot down the Ridge and while the allies couldn't shoot up it. The Canadian were the ones who ended up taking it by using the artillery as a defensive strategy. They would shoot the artillery and walk right behind it so they could get up the hill while the Germans were taking cover. Also they used "squads:" of troops witch was a new strategy.
