Alfred the Great not only defended England successfully from many Viking attacks, he also the reason for the English Language becoming further developed as a written language. Language was deteriorating in England after the Viking attacks on the Monastery and Alfred the Great did everything in his power to rebuild these education centers and develop the written English Language.
