In rebuttal of the White Paper, The NIB presented “Citizens Plus”, also known as the “Red Paper”, to the Canadian government in June, 1969. This demanded that Aboriginals should have the right to self-government, and control over their own affairs. Because the Red Paper was such a power and negative response to the White Paper, Prime Minister Trudeau abandoned it.
