2 Jun 1969 Jahr - Residential School Reform
Beschreibung:
Following the Red Paper, educational reforms began to take place in Aboriginal communities, including the downfall of Residential Schools. This was critical, as Residential Schools were mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive religious institutions that had worked to assimilate Aboriginals into “Canadian” culture and society. Although many of these institutions unfortunately remained in circulation for several more years after reform began, with the last closing in 1996, the gradual removal of them benefited the relationship between Aboriginals and the Canadian government. Still, the harm done by these institutions cannot be adequately redressed.
