William Le Baron Jenney, quien implementó el armazón esquelético de acero para hacer el diseño resistente al fuego. El edificio fue alquilado por Levi Leiter a los grandes almacenes de Siegel, Cooper and Company, que lo ocuparon durante aproximadamente siete años.

El edificio cerrpo en 1917 en Nueva York, convirtiéndose en un hospital militar durante la Guerra Mundial.
