4 Okt 1958 Jahr - V Republic (French Communauté)

Beschreibung:

Thullen: the fall of the Fourth Republic and de Gaulle’s “decolonization” policy radically modified previous assumptions regarding French policies and motives in colonial matters, leaving little reason to doubt France’s sincerity in its commitments.
The French Union was replaced in the new 1958 Constitution of 1958 by the French Community. Hoping to having peace in Algiers, the French Union system changed, abandoning assimilation in favor of autonomy, allowing territories to develop their own local government and to eventually gain their independence.
This would not succeed however and in 1958 the French Union was replaced by the French Community by Charles de Gaulle's Fifth Republic wherein France was now a federation of states with their own self-government. However, the French Community dissolved itself in the midst of the Algerian War; almost all of the other African colonies were granted independence in 1960, following local referendums.
