Germany and the Allied powers sign the Treaty of Versailles after six months of negotiations. The German armed forces were limited in size to 100,000 personnel and Germany is ordered to pay large reparations for war damages. The United States signed the treaty but did not ratify it, later making a separate peace treaty with Germany.
