28 Jul 1932 Jahr - Bonus Army March on Washington
Beschreibung:
The Bonus Army consisted of mainly 12,000 to 15,000 World War I veterans who gathered on Washington, D.C., to demand Congress for an immediate bonus payment (instead of waiting tell 1945) for wartime services to alleviate the economic hardship of the Great Depression. The veterans camped in the Anacostia Flats while waiting for congress. Then, on July 28, troops led by General Douglas MacArthur, the U.S. Army chief of staff, drove out the veterans and their families and destroyed their possessions, using tanks and tear gas. This event shocked the entire nation.
