Operation Overlord or D-Day happened on June 6, 1944 in France’s Normandy region. On five different beaches Americans, Canadians and the British landed to try and push Nazi forces back. This operation is known as the beginning to the end because by the end of August 1944, all of Northern France was free of Nazi forces.
