Though the Vietnam War between communist North Vietnam and anti-Communist South Vietnam has going on for over a decade, several events prior forced President Lyndon B. Johnson to enter the war on March 8, 1965 on the side of South Vietnam. However, the US was unprepared and the war became divisive among American citizens. President Nixon eventually pulled troops out by 1973, and North Vietnam won two years later.
