The Black Panthers were a political organization founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. Their original goal was to fight against police brutality against African Americans. They dressed in black berets and black leather jackets and organized citizens to patrol Oakland, along with other U.S. Cites. At its peak in 1968, they had about 2,000 members.
