The first transistor was successfully demonstrated on December 23, 1947 at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain are credited with creating the transistor. The transistor, also called the greatest invention of all time, replaced vacuum tubes and eventually allowed for the creation of small, fast, cheap, and reliable computers.
