North Koreans invaded South Korea in order to reunify the peninsula under communism. The Americans responded by supporting the South Koreans. General Douglas MacArthur pushed the North Koreans up to the Yalu River. Then, the Chinese got involved and pushed the Americans back to the 38th parallel.
