Her Religious Reforms in England had angered the Catholics too much. She was now at risk of a Crusade being called against her. This genuinely angered Philip II who had tried to prevent an excommunication as he felt ignored. He banned all publications of the excommunication in Spanish territories (didn't want to damage Anglo-Spaniard relations).
Elizabeth began talks about a marriage to Charles IX to try to prevent a crusade.
