17 Jun 1775 Jahr - The Battle of Bunker Hill
June 17, 1775
Beschreibung:
The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first major battle in the American Revolution and was fought on June 17, 1775, outside Boston. The battle began when, during the Siege of Boston, American militias learned that the British planned to take control of the hills surrounding Boston, which would give them control of Boston Harbor. However, the colonial militias took control over Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill the night before the British planned to take them. The British attacked the redoubt the militias had built on Breed's Hill three times, taking it on the third because the militias had run out of ammunition. However, this was somewhat of an American victory because the British sustained many more casualties than the Americans, including the loss of Colonel James Abercrombie and Major John Pitcairn.
