On July 10, 2015 Sandra Bland was pulled over for a traffic violation. The interaction between her and a police officer escalated and she was charged for assault and spend the next 3 days in jail. She was then found hanged on July 13 in her Texas jail cell. Officials declared her death to be suicide. In reaction a series of protests occured, questioning the cause of her death, alleging racial violence against her and building an online campaign using the slogan #SayHerName.
