Eric Garner was killed in New York City by Daniel Pantaleo, a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer. On suspision of selling single cigarettes from a pack without tax stamp officers tried to arrest him. In the action Pantaleo placed his arm around Garner's neck and he was pushed to the floor. While being pinned down he repeated "I can't breathe" 11 times until he lost consciousness. Pantaleo was not criminally charged.
