The social movement Black Lives Matter (BLM) was founded by the activists Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi by posting the slogan #BlackLivesMatter on social media after the acquittal of George Zimmerman. With it they dedicated themselves to fighting racism and anti-Black violence, especially in the form of police brutality in response to several killings that took place in the years before. It became an international social movement.
