Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African American, was shot by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, a multiracial guy, was on neighborhood watch in a gated community as he saw "a real suspicious guy" an followed him. It ensued a violent confrontation between the two in which Zimmerman shot Martin. Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder. On June 24, 2013 the case State of Florida v. George Zimmerman was decided after he had pleaded guilty to acting in self-defence. Zimmerman was found not guilty.
