Nat Turner’s Rebellion was a slave uprising that took place in Virginia in 1831. It was led by an enslaved preacher Nat Turner, who was responsible for the killing of 60 white people. Nat Turner had started the rebellion in the hopes of sparking a larger movement against slavery, however this never came true and he was quickly captured and executed. In response to this movement, Southern states passed stricter slave laws and significantly increased slave control. This significantly divided the North and South, and would increase sectional tensions between anti-slave and pro-slave ideologies.
