Apollo 1 was the first planned mission, in hopes to land the first man on the moon, which failed after killing all of its crew in a fire during a pre-test launch. The technology used highlighted safety issues like the highly flammable material used in the spacecraft, some mark as a scientific achievement regarding safety for astronauts.
