1 Nov 1926 Jahr - Autonomy - The King-Byng Crisis(1926)

Beschreibung:

Mackenzie King, Prime minister at the time, decided to call an election in 1926. To call an election, he needed to communicate with the Governor General. The Governor General is the person who is chosen by the British monarch to represent British government in Canada.
When King asked for permission to uphold the election, the Governor General Julian Byng refused. King was outraged, saying that this was an example of British's interference with Canada. Most Canadian's agreed with King, saying we deserve more freedom then being handed, and in the end an election was held and Mackenzie King Returned to power.
After this, Canadians semi-separated from Britain, saying that the Governors role was to only be used in ceremonial situations, and limited to [symbolically] representing the monarch in Canada.
