Peter Jahrling contacted Reston and warned them of a potential Marburg outbreak. Around the same time however he was also testing the virus from the monkey cells. After giving it three different tests, one for Marburg, one for Ebola Sudan, and one for Ebola Zaire. The only positive result was Ebola Zaire, the most contagious and damaging kind of Filovirus.

After it was confirmed that there was an Ebola Zaire outbreak in Reston, Chief of Disease Assessment Colonel Clarence J. Peters recomended a biocontainment shutdown. He saw this as the only realistic course of action. Virginia state officals as well as Fairfax County officals were notified of the outbreak.
