In Germany, the sH2unter@ports project is studying the introduction of hydrogen-powered shunting locomotives in several logistics ports.

Launched on January 26 in Bremen, this research and development project, which amounts to more than 1.2 million euros, will end on May 31, 2024. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Affairs and is part of the national innovation plan for hydrogen and fuel cell technology.

This initiative brings together 6 partners from scientific and economic sectors. They are Alstom, Eisenbahnen und Verkehrsbetriebe Elbe-Weser GmbH (evb), the Smart Mobility Institute of the University of Bremerhaven, the Institute for Energy and Circular Economy of the University of Bremen, Bremenports GmbH & Co KG and the Hamburg Port Authority.
