Renewable hydrogen at sea, a world first
"Sealhyfe" is the nickname given to the very first offshore renewable hydrogen production platform connected to a floating wind turbine. After desalination of seawater, hydrogen will be produced by electrolysis and transported to land via a network of pipelines.
This world first is the work of the French company Lhyfe. One year after launching hydrogen production via wind turbines on land in the Vendée region in September 2021, Lhyfe has crossed the Rubicon by doing it at sea.
Making hydrogen at sea: an idea that was already floating in the head of its CEO and founder, Matthieu Guesné, convinced of the central role of offshore wind power to massify the production of renewable hydrogen. "Since its creation in 2017, Lhyfe has been pursuing the objective of offshore hydrogen production," he tells us.
