On February 17, 2022, the European Parliament approved the application of a Eurovignette on the EU TEN-T network. The objective: to penalize carbon emissions and the polluter-pays. It is scheduled to come into force between March 2024 and April 2030.

The European Parliament has validated the Eurovignette established by the European Council on November 9, 2021. It applies to the distance travelled on the TEN-T network by freight or passenger vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 t. This decision puts an end to the local daily, weekly, decadal or monthly vignettes applied on the network. Member States will have until March 2024 to integrate the new legislation into their national law. They can apply it immediately or by March 2030 at the latest. Member States charging on a common TEN-T corridor will have a two-year grace period to homogenize their tariffs.
