Nestlé Waters and Railcoop optimize the use of rail. Nestlé Waters has designed a "closed loop" rail-to-road transportation plan with Chep and Combronde that eliminates empty miles. This organization was presented last month during an Eco CO2 webinar on rail freight where Railcoop unveiled its projects in Occitania. This transport plan begins in Vittel, where trainloads of mineral water on pallets reach the Combronde branch line platform in Montreuil-Bellay (Maine-et-Loire). Once unloaded, the water is then delivered to supermarket chains in the western region using CNG trucks. There, the trucks pick up empty pallets and return them to Montreuil-Bellay. Combronde hosts a repair workshop dedicated to Chep. Once refurbished, the handling racks are transported on trains used by Nestlé Waters to its factory in Vittel. According to Jean-François Lagane, "this logistical loop removes 3,700 trucks from the roads and the emission of 600 tons of CO2 per year".
