The Régiolis liO hybrid tri-mode trainset ran on April 1 and 2 on the Toulouse-Mazamet and Toulouse-Rodez lines.

2 of the 4 diesel engines on this trainset have been replaced by high-capacity batteries, allowing braking energy to be stored and reused as electrical energy. Throughout the journey, the train will thus be able to run on catenary, on battery power or with its thermal engines for an energy and GHG emission saving of 15% to 20%.

This project was conducted in partnership between Alstom, SNCF, La Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Grand Est Region, and the Centre-Val de Loire Region.

Commercial service will begin at the end of 2023.
