Description:

House of Burgesses - Created for the purpose of passing laws and maintaining order in the Jamestown Colony of Virginia and the other settlements that had grown up around it.
Mayflower Compact - The first governing document of Plymouth Colony. It was written by the men aboard the Mayflower. An agreement that bound the signers to obey the government and legal system established in Plymouth Colony.
Act of Toleration - Ensured religious freedoms to Christian settlers of different denominations who settled in Maryland.
Navigation Acts - Only English ships were allowed into England. Lower imports for England and greater exports=high profit. American colonists had to pay to send products on English ships. Americans were only allowed to export their goods to England.
Halfway Covenant - Allowed the children of baptized but unconverted church members to be baptized and thus become church members and have political rights.
King Philip's War - the Native Americans' last-ditch effort to avoid recognizing English authority and stop English settlement on their native lands.
Bacon's Rebellion - Nathaniel Bacon and Virginia settlers held armed rebellion against Governor William Berkeley after he refused to drive Natives out of Virginia so Settlers would have more land.
Pueblo Revolt - Native Indians revolt against Spanish colonizers in Santa Fé, New Mexico. First successful revolt, however Spaniards came back in 12 years.
Salem Witch Trials - The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than 200 people were accused. Thirty people were found guilty, nineteen of whom were executed by hanging.
Great Awakening - Revival of Spiritual and Religious devotion. Reaction to increasing disconnection from religion in the colonies.
French and Indian War - North American colonies, British, and Natives against French and Natives for control and conservation of culture. Continuance of the Seven Years' War but in North America instead of Europe.
