23 ene 1583 año - 1583 - Vranck debates

Descripción:

Geuzen (Beggars) have waged war with Spanish. Called Beggars as that's what the Spanish elites called them. They rally behind William the Silent, installed a Stadhtholder-based Dutch Republic, against the Regenten.

There is a debate between Oldenbarnevelt, representing the States' Party, and the house of Nassau, representing the Orangists.

The British support the House of Nassau and the Stadhtholder party, sending Thomas Wilkes to support a radical Calvinist faction in the new Republic.

François Vranck debates Wilkes in 1583, defending the Regenten, cementing the 'true freedom' ideology of Oldenbarnevelt, Grotius and others.
