21 ene 1827 año - Britain Takes Possesion of Western Australia

Descripción:

Since the establishment of Sydney in 1788, many more colonists had been sent over to Australia, both convicts and free people. By the mid 1820s, two more settlements had been established, specifically that of Brisbane and Tasmania, and an exploratory mission across the Blue Mountains had been made which allowed access to the inland areas of New South Wales for the first time.

New South Wales at this point referred to the entire eastern half of the continent, with the western side still being known as New Holland. This was all about to change however when in December 1826 the British established their first settlement in the west - a town now known as Albany - which caused them to claim the entire western half of the continent as British territory too. By this time they had already been granted permission to change the name of the land and so the continent as a whole was now referred to as "Australia".

Over the next few decades more colonies and settlements would spring up around the coasts of Australia and eventually expeditions would be made into the interior itself. After a while some of the more significant colonies would be the bases for dividing Australia up into six different provinces - these were: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania.
